Mechanical Vegetation Management
Using a bulldozer and a roller chopper we go into a project area to mechanically diminish the presence of unwanted species, whether they be invasive or natives that have overrun and therefore choked out other desirable species. Mechanical removal is usually used primarily for larger species that goats cannot access or species which are unpalatable to the goats.
Opening up an overgrown area so that sunlight can reach the understory promotes plant and animal diversity.
Targeted Goat Grazing
Often used either in conjunction with, or in place of mechanical management, targeted grazing with goats is an exceptional way to sustainably clear and maintain even the most hard to reach ecological habitats.
With electric fencing, goats give us the ability to design a precise grazing plan based on unwanted or overgrown species while leaving desired species untouched.
Wildlands pays special attention to the desired outcome of a grazing project and we leave our goats no longer than is required for the achievement of the client’s goals.
Goats are very often the most economical method for vegetation management
We come to each project with a deep knowledge of Texas’s varied ecology and native species and a desire to preserve that heritage.
